CRESTVIEW — Here are highlights involving area students:
- Timothy West Jr. of Crestview is among the six Northwest Florida State College Pacesetters scholarship winners for 2017. They won after a competitive interview process involving a committee of college staff and community members. The scholarship is for $1,000 per academic year. The program assists African-American males who graduated from high school in Okaloosa or Walton counties and are attending college for the first time. They may serve as elementary school student mentors and get mentoring from community leaders themselves.

Piedmont Technical College students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2017 spring semester have earned inclusion on the President’s List. Crestview’s honoree is Bennett Wicker. To be named to the list, students must be enrolled full time and earn a term GPA of 4.00. Students will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the college president.

William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, awarded degrees to 687 students during May Commencement. Alexander Rich, of Crestview, earned a Bachelor of Music. To receive graduation distinctions, a student must earn grades on at least 60 hours from the university.
