CRESTVIEW — Monday’s special Crestview City Council meeting included discussion and approval of council members’ attendance at the Annual League of Cities Conference.
The goal of the August conference in Orlando is to share ideas with other Florida cities, attend educational workshops and sessions, and discuss strategies for Florida’s future.
The council budgeted $16,450 for training and travel this year for league conferences and meetings; $12,979 reportedly is left in that budget.
The estimated cost for each council member to attend the Orlando event is $1,976. Councilmen JB Whitten, Joe Blocker, Bill Cox, Shannon Hayes and Mayor David Cadle plan to attend the conference.
The council approved sending the four council members and the mayor to the conference.
A budget workshop immediately followed the special council meeting. City Clerk Elizabeth Roy presented the preliminary city budget. She requested each council member to meet with her between July 6 and July 12 to check numbers and get their books in order. A full budget workshop will take place July 17.
Whitten questioned each city department head in attendance regarding their individual budget requests. Each stated that they were in good shape for the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
In other news, Roy announced that a Fourth of July fireworks display begins with 6 p.m. music at Twin Hills Park.
