Modified Lee Farms home serves residents, caregivers

CRESTVIEW — A stroll through paved walkways and green landscapes brings residents of Easton’s Place Assisted Living back to a simpler time.

The home, which opened mid-March, is located at 2301 W. James Lee Blvd., on seven acres in the Lee Farms housing development. Constructed in 1960, the building once was the home for the Lee family and little has changed.

“We wanted to keep it original,” Indiana Hein, who operates the facility, said.

Original wood flooring is flanked by 1960s wallpaper in the dining room; wood panel walls create a cabin-like feel in the home’s bedrooms; original lighting gives rooms a pleasant ambiance; and a record player is built into the wall near the kitchen — with a 45 RPM adapter still in place.

The facility features five resident bedrooms, one of which can accommodate two residents. The bedrooms come furnished but residents are welcome to bring their own furniture and decor if they prefer — to make their new home feel as much like their last one as possible.

Bathrooms, accessible for those with limited mobility, feature step-less entry and seating benches.

Easton’s Place features beauty salon services, exercise classes, Sunday church services, cards and board games. The home also features an event room to host family gatherings, birthday parties and other special occasions; an updated kitchen — for serving three meals each day plus snacks; and cable and WiFi connections, laundry services and RV hookups.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy Florida weather on the grounds. A furnished, screened back porch overlooks a raised-bed garden. A barn — with recreational room and kitchen — allows residents to stay active and entertained while tinkering on a project or hobby.

Eight CPR and food safety certified staffers provide care and social interaction with residents, ensuring round-the-clock availability. Staffers also can also assist with medications, meals, showering and transportation services.

“It’s really hands-on, direct care,” Hein said.

The facility also offers respite and adult day care. These services provide caregivers and family members with some time and a place to unwind and socialize. This helps to relieve stress, restore energy and promote balance for caregivers and residents.
