CRESTVIEW — Antioch Elementary School is celebrating some recent achievements.
The Okaloosa County School Board presented Antioch Principal Kelli Sanders with a plaque from the State of Florida. The plaque recognizes that the school achieved A+ recognition for the 2016-2017 school year. It cites "their dedication to higher standards and higher accountability resulting in this outstanding achievement," as written on the plaque. This is the 15th consecutive year Antioch Elementary has received this recognition.
The Florida Department of Education also recognized four faculty members — Kristin Bull, Melissa Graham, Brenda Jones and Luisa Ogilvie — as High Impact Teachers.
According to a letter from Florida Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart thanking one of the teachers for their hard work and commitment, the government analyzes three years of student performance on statewide standardized assessments of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Algebra to determine teachers that have the most positive effect on student education.
Another activity that happens every morning at Antioch is viewing the WANN Morning Show Live. Fifth-graders manage the equipment to air the show live, and well as anchor the show.
A spokesperson for the school stated, "WANN was honored to have (Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputy) Timothy Patterson anchor live with his daughter, Kady Patterson … (he) was very impressed at how skilled these students are in making the show come together."
