SHALIMAR — A jury has found a Crestview resident guilty of first-degree murder, according to a media release from the First Judicial Circuit State Attorney's office. Sentencing took place after the trial, which started Feb. 13 and ended Feb. 16.
Glenn David Winstead of Crestview is to serve a mandatory life imprisonment sentence for the death of Daniel Flynn.
The defendant drove to a home in Crestview and picked up Daniel Flynn Nov. 20, 2015, according to the media release. "Mr. Flynn was seen leaving the house and getting into the defendant’s vehicle. Mr. Flynn was reported missing Nov. 21, 2015 by friends when he never returned. Law enforcement began to investigate Mr. Flynn’s disappearance on November 21, 2015," the release stated.
Officers located Flynn’s body on property owned by the defendant’s family off of Old River Road on Nov. 24, 2015. Deputies found Flynn, shot 15 times, in the woods covered with pine straw and a blanket.
"The defendant’s DNA was found on the blanket covering Mr. Flynn, on a cigarette near Mr. Flynn’s body and in Mr. Flynn’s pockets. Mr. Flynn’s DNA was found in the defendant’s car that witnesses saw on November 20, 2015. Florida Department of Law Enforcement determined that shell casings found near Mr. Flynn’s body were fired from a firearm owned by the defendant and found in the defendant’s possession on November 24, 2015," the release stated.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Crestview Police Department, Okaloosa Correctional Institution K-9 Team, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement, conducted the investigation and arrest.
