CRESTVIEW — The Council of State Governments Overseas Voting Initiative’s Technology Working Group announced recommendations to address challenges facing military and overseas voters during the 2016 Council of State Governments National Conference in Colonial Williamsburg, Va.
As part of this working group, the Okaloosa County supervisor of elections, Paul Lux, contributed his experience in conducting elections in a significantly military-populated area such as Okaloosa County.
The CSG OVI Technology Working Group, following more than two years of research and collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense’s Federal Voting Assistance Program, developed recommendations to improve the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act process and aim to provide real-world examples as a model for election officials and legislators nationwide.
“The work this group does is very important in improving the voting experience and process, not only for Okaloosa County’s military voters but (also) for military voters nationwide,” Lux said.
The CSG OVI Technology Working Group aims to strengthen confidence in the security and process when dealing with technological advancements and increases in electronic transmission of ballots.
