BAKER — A home in Baker was destroyed by a fire on Friday afternoon.
Firefighters from the Crestview, Holt and Baker fire departments responded to a call about 1 p.m. to a home on fire at the corner of State Road 4 and New York Street. Okaloosa County EMS and Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputies were also on the scene.
Sarah Jordan, who lives at the residence, said her 91-year-old grandmother was home alone at the time.
Jordan had gone to run an errand and left her grandmother at home to take a nap. She was on her way back home when she received a call about the fire.
“She (my grandmother) said she was in her room lying down and she heard something on the back porch, so she got up to see what it was,” Jordan said. “When she walked to the kitchen, she saw the fire coming in from the back porch.”
Jordan’s grandmother then grabbed her phone and went outside to call 911.
No one was injured in the fire, but the family believes a dog was trapped in the home.
Firefighters were still on the scene at 2:20 p.m. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
