Can the Volunteers stop the streak of 11 straight losses to the Gators? Which college — LSU or Auburn — gets the new coach first?
Those are some burning questions. Now, onto the picks:
Clemson Tigers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (Sept. 22): Now that Florida State lost, the Tigers think the ACC title is theirs. Watch out for Louisville, but this week you’re safe. Tigers by 17.
Duke Blue Devils vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Who would have ever thought that these two teams would be evenly matched? They might be on paper, but realistically, it’s Fighting Irish by 14 or more points.
Pittsburgh Panthers vs. North Carolina Tar Heels: This is the first hard game for the Tar Heels. Sorry, you cannot keep up. Panthers by 21.
Florida Gators vs. Tennessee Volunteers: This is the home game for the Big Orange. They have to put an end to 11 years lost to the Gators. Is this the year? I think so. Heart Attack UT by 7.
LSU Tigers vs. Auburn War Eagles (Tigers): Auburn has found its new coach and he is setting over at Alabama — what a hoot! (SEC Game of the week.) LSU by 21.
Georgia Dawgs vs. Ole Miss Rebels: Wow! This one is hard to pick. I know the Rebels got kicked around a bit with Alabama and they want to show that they are a better team. Still, not today. Dawgs by 3. (Great tailgate parties at this game.)
South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Kentucky Wildcats: The Wildcats would love a little pheasant under glass, but not today. Gamecocks by 6.
Arkansans Razorbacks vs. Texas A&M Aggies (at Arlington, Texas): Both teams are 3 and O. Aggies are fast and the Razorbacks are strong, with plenty of ribs at the tailgate parties. Aggies by 7, only because they are still in Texas.
Virginia Tech Hokies vs. East Carolina Pirates: The Pirates get to walk the plank again. Hokies by 17.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Indiana Hoosiers: This game is a lot closer than you think. Everybody picks the Hoosiers by a lot. Me also, but only by 7. (ACC game to watch)
TIE BREAKER: You pick the score on this one: Penn State’s Nittany Lions vs. Michigan Wolverines.
