College football picks, week 3

Can the Ole Mississippi Rebels make it three in a row over the Tide, and will the Miami Hurricanes stub their toe with Appalachian State?

Here are this week’s picks:

Florida State Seminoles vs. Louisville Cardinals, (ACC Game of the Week): The Cardinals are fast on the field but the Seminoles can stay with them up until the last quarter. The Seminoles will need lots of horses to keep up. This game is not in Florida, folks. The Cardinals win by seven points. (Look out, Clemson; you’re on their bucket list to beat).

Duke Blue Devils vs. Northwestern Wildcats: Neither team can play as they did last year. Wildcats win by 14, making this two in a row for them.

Boston College Eagles vs. Virginia Tech Hokies: These two teams are evenly matched, and Virginia Tech just might run out of gas in the end. B.C. wins by 6.

Pittsburgh Panthers vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys: Pitt, coming off a black-and-blue win, should be able to put this away. Nope, it’s a letdown. Cowboys by 3.

Miami Hurricanes vs. Appalachian State Mountaineers: Miami’s schedule was a bit easy up until now; they have to be very careful they do not stumble and get a nose bleed high in the mountains of North Carolina — and the people in Boone, N.C., have never seen a Hurricane before. Mountaineers win by 1.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Ole Miss Rebels (SEC Game of the Week): Can the Rebels do it again? How do you stop an Alabama Train? All aboard! Alabama by 17 or more points.

Texas A&M Aggies vs. Auburn War Eagles: After this game, watch to see if Auburn is still looking for a new coach. War Eagles by 3.

Georgia Dawgs vs. Missouri Tigers: The Dawgs have a bigger bite than the Tigers in this one, but it is very close. Georgia by 6.

Mississippi Bulldogs vs. LSU Tigers: This is one of the better games this week to watch. The only way you win at Baton Rouge is take LSU into overtime. Tigers by 3.

East Carolina Pirates vs. South Carolina Gamecocks: The Gamecocks make the Pirates walk the plank. South Carolina by 7.

Tie Breaker: You pick the score on this one plus the winner: West Virginia Mountaineers vs. BYU Cougars: At Landover, Md., this could be one of the high-scoring games of the week.

The Cougars need to be careful that they don’t get skinned alive. Mountaineers by 7 (52 to 45).
